New Pattern Release.....Hapshepsut.......#0707

Dear Lords and Ladies;

At last I have completed (sort'a) my computer updates...Of course, I had to exchange one item the "expert" sold me for my wireless broadband network...and have some unplanned modifications I have to make, but at least I have a workable upgrade!!

Here are the photos for the next Lord Perry Pattern to be released:  The pattern is available for sale and fits both the modern and classic 11 1/2 inch fashion doll.  Hapshepsut is the seventh pattern in Les Afriquennes, and follows Cleopatra/Isis and Nefertiti/Nefertiri as the third in the Egyptian series.
Arsinoe, our fourth will be available later this year.

Back in 1473 B.C., it was unheard of for a woman to rule in Egypt, however, upon the death of her brother/husband, Hapshepsut declared herself divine, curried favor with the priesthood, and wore men's clothing when necessary.  Lord Perry has created a pattern, that while entirely feminine, suggests the robes worn by an Egyptian prince (without the beard she often wore while on the throne).  During her lifetime she was responsible for several important civil works, including her famous burial chamber.  Unfortunately, she was believed to be murdered by her nephew in his bid for the Egyptian throne.

Showcase: Oh! Susannah

..The California gold rush was responsible for many of the pioneer families heading west.  Lord Perry Historical and Specialized Patterns has designed two dresses perfect for the well dressed traveling girl.  Two delightful sunbonnets are included in the pattern.  The bodice utilizes pleated darts that form a fashion staple for gowns of this type.  This pattern in in the Lord Perry Americana album on Facebook.  (Geneva White)   Lordperrypattern@aol.com

Tip of the week-Choosing your dolls

..We have talked about choosing the fabrics and trims for your designs, and how to prepare the materials to help you produce a great piece of wearable art for your doll, but all that will be wasted unless you choose the right doll for your garment.  If you are dressing a doll in historical costume, you need to remember that skin tone as well as hair style is very important.  Dolls dressed in Renaissance and other European Court dress as well as Civil War fashion need a skin tone that is as pale as possible.

Lord Perry Patterns was developed so that designers could create wonderful OOAK dolls by picking up fashion dolls anywhere, even garage sales.  Many of the designs we have developed (over 75 patterns) have head gear, etc. that work very well on dolls that have not been gently used.  Many time just a dab of paint to change lip or eye color will give new life to a tired fashion doll.

Lord Perry Listens...

Dear Lords & Ladies;

I frequently invite all of you to contact me regarding suggestions, questions, or  anything about a Lord Perry pattern that may be confusing, especially to someone who has not done a great deal of sewing and may not be very familiar with some sewing terms.

Most Lord Perry patterns do not suggest linings or facings because they are simply not necessary.  I do, however, use them occasionally.  It was brought to my attention very recently that not everyone knows what a facing is.  In strict terms, facings are linings that are of the same material as the outer garment; in fact they may be part of the same pattern piece, just folded inward over the wrong side of the material.  Linings are usually of a lighter material than the garment material. Both facings and linings provide two layers of fabric, can be used to give structure to a garment and, in some cases for artistic merit, such as creating a less transparent view, covering seams, etc.

If you do choose to line your garment, we suggest cheesecloth or China silk.  One of the most desireable traits of our patterns is the close and accurate fit of the patterns to the dolls body. Only the thinest possible lining can assure you will retain the fit;  as I mentioned earlier, lining a garment is usually not necessary.
